Task Force

As part of our "recognised activities" and total commitment to keep footpaths open we work closely with Highways section of the Department of Transport. As a result of this working relationship it was agreed that members of MFCG could form a dedicated team to undertake limited works on the Footpath Network under the guidance and supervision of the Highways Department.

The thinking behind this is that whilst it may take Highways teams some time to attend isolated locations for a small job such as way marking, scrub clearance etc., the Task Force can do this more quickly and efficiently and get a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment at the same time. This then frees up Highways workforce to get on with major improvements and remedies to the network. This has worked very well over the years it has been in operation and the benefits are there for all to see.

Conservation & Repair

The Manx Footpath Task Force regularly inspect footpaths to check their condition, the maintenance of furniture and to report any defects or obstructions whether natural or otherwise.

We also have our own regular working parties to handle many minor items of maintenance. This then frees the Highways Department workforce to concentrate on major items.

We enjoy a good working relationship with both the Department of Highways & the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forests. We work closely with the Forestry Division on land within their management
