The Glen Mooar Link - Page 2

Highways discover our route actually crosses land that does not belong to them but by 4th July we have agreed revised plans with the sympathetic land owner Mr. James Curphey. We undertake to proceed in an environmentally conscious way with minimum impact on the vegetation and landscape. The decision is therefore made to route directly up the slope rather than a large Zig-Zag in order to reduce the amount to be cleared even though this will be steeper for the path users. However this will not start until the Bridge is completed and we can survey the slope in safety.

Meanwhile we continue to clear the second half of the rail track where the going is much tougher. The overgrowth is so dense there is no light for grass to flourish.

The work takes a couple more outings but we finally arrive at the Bridge parapet on 6th September. This gives us the opportunity of properly surveying the access to the lower slope. Holidays and weather intervene and work stops until late October by which time Mark had finished the Bridge and we therefore gained access to all parts of the site.

We make a start on the first steps up from the bridge before turning left...

With the ramp back to the Pier where...

... steps will start the long climb up. Soon it is just a matter of alternating steps and
ramps in a Zig-Zag up the slope
... and more steps!
